Once in a lifetime.

So, I still have no idea how to rotate pictures. One day I will not be inept. Until that day, just deal with it. Anywho....THIS HAPPENED TODAY!!!! 11/11/11 at 11:11:11 I made a very good wish. Obviously I cannot tell you what it was, but don't worry, it was good. It was probably the best minute of my life. I was in my Classical Civ class at the time, and exclaimed, "This is the most exciting minute I've ever had!" and my teacher said, "You have lived a pretty dull life." Which isn't true, because I get excited over everything, which means I live a very exciting (or at least excited) life.

Also, I just felt that these two pictures needed to be on the internet.

This picture of me being a terrifying cougar.

And this picture of me and Erin with Antoine Dodson, "singer" of the Bed Intruder Song.

Add about 10 million hours of homework, and that's my life!!!

Love Letter

Dear Body,
Thank you. Thank you for being able to hear music, Holden's cute voice, the sound of someone calling my name, my professors lectures, and the laughter of people. Thank you for being able to see pretty flowers, hot boys, cute children, fascinating architecture.
Thank you for being able to smell blueberry scones, and rainy pavement. Thank you for being able to taste chocolate covered pomegranates, fried macaroni and cheese, and mashed potatoes with cream gravy. For being able to feel my blanky, shoulder rubs, and snowflakes on my tongue.

Thank you for walking, for running, for riding a bike, for clogging, for skipping, for dancing like a maniac, for being able to sit still.

Thank you, hands, for being able to write essays, poetry, journal entries, and songs. You can scoop the guts out of a pumpkin, you can play the piano and the ukulele. You can draw pictures. You can cook food. You can hold the hands of those you love. You can type into the computer.
I can lift little kids on my shoulders. I can run through sprinklers. I can do a headstand.

I can sleep at night, I can wake up in the morning. I can taste food, I can chew food, I can swallow food, I can digest food, I can poop food.

I can smile, I can cry. I can sing, I can be quiet. I can be hurt, I can heal. I can get sick, I can recover.

MY BODY IS A MIRACLE! THANK YOU, HEAVENLY FATHER, FOR THE AMAZING GIFT!!!

Conference weekend with the fam

AKA a post entirely dedicated to adorable things my almost three year old nephew, Holden, says.

Holden: How old are you, Hannah?
Me: How old do you think I am?
Holden: hmmm....fifty nine?

Me: Where are you guys moving?
Holden: To a new house.
Me: Lucky! I wish I was moving to a new house.
Holden: You can live in my house. Or you can just come visit, if you prefer.

Me: Do you know where I've been, Holden?
Holden: College at BYU?
Me: Yep!
Holden: I think maybe I'll go to college at BYU.
Julie: Not yet, Holden. Maybe when you get older!
Holden: Yeah...maybe when I'm 3.

Holden: I'm actually very good at pool.

Ethan: Holden has some buck teeth, doesn't he?
Everyone else: Rude!!
Holden (to Ethan): Well, you have dumb teeth.

Holden: (referring to Plants vs. Zombies) I love my garlic. Do I love my garlic? I love my garlic.

Holden: Are we going to conference?
Me: We're at conference right now!
Holden: What kind of conference? Maybe...GENERAL CONFERENCE!

Deaf like me.

This week here at the BYU is accessibility week. It focuses on being aware of people with disabilities, and appreciate how difficult things can be for them. There were different things you could experience, like using a wheel chair, or crutches, or wearing an eye patch. I decided to simulate hearing impairment, to be able to understand what my dad goes through a little bit more. As I did this, I took some notes of thoughts I had:
  • I can see people talking, but have no idea what they're saying.
  • I hope no one says hi to me, then is offended because I couldn't hear them and didn't say hi back.
  • I wish there was a way people could know I can't hear them.
  • That girl's shoes must be really loud if even I can hear them.
  • I wonder if this room is as awkwardly quiet as it seems
  • I'd probably say hi to this guy and remind him who I was if I could hear what he'd say back without making it weird and awkward and loud.
  • I CAN'T HEAR ANYTHING
  • I feel like I am in an entirely different world than anyone else
  • I should wear these earplugs whenever I need to concentrate.
  • Good thing I got here early enough to get a seat on the front row. It'd be hard to have to be early for every class.
  • Has the subject we were talking about passed? Is what I'm going to ask now even relevent?
  • I sure hope I just said "amen" to a prayer I agree with, because I have no idea what he just said.
So, yeah. I'm really grateful to have all my hearing. Now I especially don't mind people making fun of me for wearing ear plugs at concerts, or not keeping my phone on loud. It was good to be able to see a little bit more of what my dad feels all the time.

College Firsts

College. I'm in it. Good thing I've posted lots of blog posts keeping you updated. NOT. So here is a quick overview of all the new things I've done in college. There is a lot of them.
My First (backwards) adorable visiting teaching reminder. (it's a round tuitt. Because until you've done your visiting teaching, you will get around to it. Adorable, amirite?)
Also, my first calling: Visiting Teaching Coordinator

My first ginormous book to read. I've already read the Odyssey, the Iliad, and the Agamemnon. For one class.

My first roommate! Miss Lacy. I absolutely love her! She's super adorable, and puts up with all of my eccentricities. We basically party. All the time.
My First paper. I got an A, thank you very much. A good omen for the rest of my college career, hopefully.

Not Pictured: My first BYU football game, my first crushing defeat, my first college test, my first bridal fair, my first time drinking a (fake) martini, my first personal home teachers, my first rape whistle, and so much more!

And now, for a new segment on Hannah's blog: Overhead at BYU
"Yeah, I either want to be married to him, or someone else by the end of the year. I mean I'm just ready, you know? I'm almost 20."

Hurrying and posting so I can stop feeling guilty.

I haven't posted in a long time, and the last thing i posted about was suhooooper annoying. So here's just a little review of whassup:

I went to KarKar's Cabin with her fam, and it was SO much fun.

I went to my final girls' camp, which was one of the best I've had!

I'm partying with everyone I love before I go to school. Hopefully those visits will last me a while.

Just generally getting ready for school, physically and emotionally.

I'll keep posting, especially now that I'm going away, and this blog will actually have a purpose of informing people on what is going on in my life.

and now, my new tradition (thanks, maggie), a 30 rock quote per post!
Tracy: Shirt on or off, Sean?!?
Sean: On.
Tracy: Good note. Back at one.

If you love me at all, you will click on this link, then press the "like" button. I wanna go to the Harry Potter premier. I wanna go sooo baddd.

This is a contest put on by the Salt Lake tribune to find Utah's biggest Harry Potter fan. I think I qualify. The Salt Lake Tribune people pick one winner, but I've looked at the other entries, and I can't compete with adorable 9 year old children. The other winner is chosen solely by "likes" on their video. So, get a-likin'!!

Fathers Day! Aka my first Domestic Fail

My mom has been in Alaska visiting my Grandma for her 90th birthday (Happy Birthday Grandma!), and won't be back for Father's day. So, I took it upon myself to be in charge of the Fathers Day Cake.

It went well. Until I didn't put enough grease in the pans. My beautiful cakes would not come out of the pan. I was almost tempted to just eat them straight from the pan. But, dad and I got them out, and he told me they would still taste good, even if they looked horrible. (my words, not his). I was not satisfied with this, though. So with a little patience, and a lot of frosting, I was able to turn this:

Into this!

Sure, it's still pretty bad looking. But completely presentable. We haven't eaten it yet, so I don't know if it will cut properly, but I do know that I am not embarrassed to look at it, and it will probably taste good. Happy Fathers day, everyone!

The End.

Sonnet #3

Ode to My Cell Phone
by Hannah Wing

I call you Superphone, the Phone Who Lived,
and it is not with little thought I do.
Those clumsy times you graciously forgive
Though times you've dropped have been more than a few.

As short a fall as from my jacket pocket
As far the void down the Hilton's endless shaft
To my pleasure, but my undeniable shock, it
seemed you were unharmed. In my relief, I laughed.

So courageous, so undaunted you serve
connecting via text, facebook, and twitter.
In my book, I would say that you deserve
a peace prize, but Xiaobo might be bitter.

So, thank you: my tool, my social life, my friend,
your endurance and your patience I commend.

The Merry Month of May

is always a full one. These last two weeks, for example, have been jam packed. AP tests, the talent show, Prom, clogging competitions...just crazy. For those who missed it (or for those who just want to watch it again...can't say I blame you.) I did stand up comedy in the school talent show. I would say it went pretty well, and I had SO much fun doing it.

I also got to go to prom with Amos! It was so much fun! A lot of the kids I went to Disneyland with were in my group. They are dancing fools. We roasted hot dogs and played games on Friday, then danced it up and got smoothies on Saturday. Fun times all around.

My AP literature test went pretty well, I think...I go back and forth on whether I feel extremely confident about it, or completely terrified. Oh, well. It's over.

My AP language test is tomorrow. I'm sure it will be fine. My CE 1050 test is on Thursday (hopefully...he said he might postpone it...to 2 weeks from now! I'm sorry, but if we wait that long, all the knowledge will fall out of my brain.) Once those things are over, I home free! From schoolwork, that is. I still have school and seminary graduation, spring fling, clogging...lots of fun things! May is my favorite month, I think.

This May is a scary one. It's my last one in public school. Once it is over, Summer begins, and at the end of the Summer guess where I am going? College. COLLEGE. Since when have I been old enough to go to college? Last time I checked my best friends were 5-13 years old, my favorite food is still boxed macaroni and cheese, and my favorite show is iCarly.

Oh, well. I never know how to end blog posts. From now on I will just do it like this.

END.

50th Post: The Wonderful World of Disney!

I think it's very fitting that my fiftieth post is my post about Disneyland!

To start off, Let me just say, I love Disneyland. Love it.
Let me also say, I love best buddies, and the kids in that program. Love them.
I've been considering being a special ed teacher for a little while now, but I think it might make me too anxious. I don't know. We'll have to see.

There's really too much to say about the trip and everything that happened, and I'm sure no one really cares...it's never as interesting if you weren't there. So, instead I'm just going to post about the great kids I got to go with!

Me and Cody on Dumbo! Cody is such a sweet person. At dinner the first day he said, "I am really tired, but I don't want to go back yet, because I am so lucky to be here in Disneyland, and don't want to miss a minute of it." He was so excited about everything! From riding the airplane, to staying in the hotel, to going on the rides, to meeting Mickey Mouse. He LOVED meeting Mickey Mouse. He couldn't stop talking about how Mickey gave him a kiss! Being around Cody lifted my spirits and made my experience better. He had such a good attitude about everything, and made me even more excited to be there.

Macie is the cutest girl you'll ever meet. Autopia, or "the cars" was her favorite ride. She loved being their with her "nanny" (grandma) who was also hilarious. Macie was willing to go on every single ride, which none of us expected. We went on Thunder Mountain Railroad together, and she loved putting her hands up in the air! She also loved the Haunted Mansion, she thought it was hilarious. She grabbed Dylan's and my legs so tight when we went on Tower of Terror. She loved her Mickey Balloon, and being pushed in the wheelchair. Who wouldn't?
Me and Miss Rachel were roommates, which was a blast. The only rough part was trying to get her to stop watching Wizards of Waverly Place. :) She got an awesome Mater (from Cars) ear hat. She loved all the rides, and was always a riot. I was sad I wasn't in her group, so I didn't see much of her.

Wesley is my Homeboy. He can be difficult at times, no question, but he was SO much fun. His favorite rides were Space Mountain ("Big Rocket!") and California Screamin' ("Big roller coaster!") He also loved the plane ("Big Airplane!") and riding the bus. He loved Mickey Mouse, and Disneyland in general. Since coming home, every time he sees me he looks at me for a second, gasps as though realizing something shocking, and says "Disneyland!" I say, "Yep, we went to Disneyland, huh Wes?" and nods his Wesley nod and gives me a thumbs up. He always points at the picture of us on the bulletin board and says, "Hannah and Wesley!" It melts my heart.

And, of course, Larkin. Disneyland was a miraculous place where we could hang out together, and she wouldn't ignore me or ask me to leave :) truly the happiest place on earth.

Not Pictured: My dawg, Amos. You'll probably see pictures of him later, because he asked me to Prom! :) I know it's going to be a blast.

Toodle-loo.

Life is good. Life is great.

I got back from Disneyland Yesterday. It was a blast!! I'll do another post on that later.

School is over in 2 months. That is insanity. I got my housing at BYU...not my first choice, which makes me a little mad because I applied SO early, but it's fine. I'm probably supposed to be in Stover Hall for whatever reason. So that's fun. But scary.

This is me and Kar Kar, doing what we do best: stalking celebrities.
Nathan Kress (Freddie on iCarly) did this fast food rap, so me and Karlie decided to do it too. We are really white.

What a waste.

So, despite the last two blog posts telling you otherwise, I did not give up fried food, nor did I give up french fries for lent. I gave up facebook.

In reality, I gave up facebook roughly the same time as lent, with the intention being to go off it for a week. Then my other goals fell through, and I realized that giving up facebook would totally count. Plus more, because I'm way more addicted to facebook than I am to french fries.

It's been super hard. Super. Hard. I keep on thinking of awesome statuses that I want to post, or just statuses that I want to people to see and know about, even if they're not awesome. So, as to not be wasteful, I decided to post them here. Just imagine the "Hannah Grace" in front of every post.

My nephew just took some chocolate chips out of the cookie dough, smooshed them in his hand, and offered, "want these?" When I said, "no, i don't want those!" He said, "Okay, I guess I'll have them then." What a cutie.

can't believe she didn't know it was fake mustache day. This is the saddest day ever.

Could live in her hammock. If it didn't start snowing all the time.

loves spring!

learned how to use the internet in computer tech today. Thank Heavens for school.

just went to a jaw physical therapist that has her do exercises that make her look like the following things: a puffer fish, a monkey, the man from "The Scream," and the man in "the thinker"

really wants to post a facebook status right now.

Life lately

You know what kind of ruins lent? When the next day, you totally forget your goal and eat 3 dollars worth of tater babies and chicken chunks (they were delicious, btw). So guess who changed their goal?? HANNAH! It is now just cutting out french fries (being more specific makes it easier to remember) and a few unsavory words from my vocabulary. And since I changed my goal, I have been doing great.

I don't understand why people say mean things, when they don't have to say mean things. In fact, they don't have to say anything. Real happening:
'
H: Do you know what this restaurant has on the menu that isn't deep fat fried? All the chicken dishes I get are fried.
D: Why? (imagine it said in a really snarky, superior tone)
H: I gave up fried food for lent, and I'm trying to decide what to get.
D: Oh, so what, you're Catholic now? (seriously snarky guys, imagine as much snark as you can.)
H: You don't have to be Catholic to observe lent.
D: Whatever. Lent. That's dumb. Shmoo shmoo shmoo shmoo I'm a huge jerk.

Okay, so maybe that last part wasn't a direct quote, but you get what I'm saying. Seriously. I wasn't asking his opinion of me observing lent, I was simply asking him a menu-related question (that he failed to answer, btw). I guess any opportunity to talk is an opportunity to be a huge jerk, for him.

I used to think he was awesome, too. What a sense of disillusionment.

Anyway, in other news, I saw the Scarlet Pimpernel at my school 4 times because I have a life and stop judging me. I also finished my stand up comedy act for the school talent show, and have been practicing for my audition this Friday. Otherwise, I'm just preparing for life at the BYU.

Pictured: Me and a freedom rider at the Sundance Film Festival last year. They made an amazing documentary, and I got to meet him! He was there! F'realz! So cool.

Lent

One lent I want to give up lentils, just for the fun word play.

Last year I gave up french fries, and I was quite successful. This year I'm taking it a step further. I am giving up...wait for it...drumroll, please...

All Deep Fried Food!

including but not limited to:

French Fries
Chicken Nuggets/fried chicken
Donuts
And, even though I've never eaten these in my life, fried pickles.

I guess this means no more fry parties for a while. Woo. Wish me luck.

Also, I uploaded all of the photos from my old memory card onto the computer, so the next few posts will have an extra special fun blast-from-the-past photo at the end! Whoopee!

Me and Lilaroo in fall of 2009. What a cutie. We were laying on my hammock the other day (for the brief period it wasn't covered in snow) and she said to me, "Hammocks are the best thing. They're like swings, only cozier."

True dat. True dat.

The end of an era.

That last post was symbolic of my Justin Bieber phase.

Because in the time between that post and this one I decided to just let the unavoidable wash over me so I could get over it quickly and move on with my life.
But there's no denying I had it. The Bieber Fever.

I categorize my life in phases, they're just part of who I am. I obsess. But sometimes I am more willing to obsess than others. I was reluctant to be a belieber. But I learned I just have to accept who I am, and hopefully it will be over soon.

And it was. Don't get me wrong, I still love the Biebs...but I am still a healthy human being. I can't say that about all Bieber fans.

Thankfully, the only thing remaining from that phase was an awesome t-shirt, some good memories with friends, songs to listen to in the car, and this video of me playing the harmonica.

PS: I'M GOING TO COLLEGE. but more on that later.

Why Justin Bieber is a classy "man."

I might just be posting this so I can stop looking at my grosso pock-face...but here comes the Bieber talk.

Say what you will about his music, but this is adorbs.

In case you missed it, there was a viral youtube video of a 3 year old girl crying because she loved Justin Bieber so much. It's super cute. It's pretty long, so just watch like the first minute and the last 20 seconds.

Anyway,Jimmy Kimmel saw this video, and got J Biebs himself to come surprise the little girl and her older sisters, who I'm sure loved him just as much.

The whole thing gave me the warm fuzzies. But if you have still have no reason to love Justin Bieber, you have to give him props for being a class act: He sent their whole family to Disneyland. DISNEYLAND! That is a good man right there...a good. man.

boy.

Thoughts on chicken pox.

I know it's been infinity since I posted last. But I have a valid excuse. The most valid excuse I've ever heard, which is that I had the chicken pox.

I suggest that small children, pregnant women, and the elderly stop reading immediately. What you are about to see is of a very graphic nature, and may cause vomiting. But...I still think they're cool. And unless your name is Julie or Maggie, just be thankful you didn't have to see them in real life.

Me, later on in the week, on the mend.

My forehead is one of the places that got it worst.

I call this hairstyle taking a bath then sleeping on wet hair nine times in a row. I couldn't get it to look that awesome if I tried.

Chicken pox in your mouth and down your throat= no bueno. It was awful. I had this awesome mouth numbing medicine, though, that worked wonders.

My ugly chicken-pocked face

Because my parents were in the happiest place on earth while I was in the unhappiest place on earth (chickenpoxland) I really got to see how many people cared about me. Don't get me wrong, I don't blame my parents at all, I told them not to come home. I would have felt awful if they came home early because of me. Side note, they did come home a few days early after all, and promptly got the flu. Bummer times.

Anyway, I never for one minute felt like I wasn't taken care of. My young womens leader picked up my prescriptions, even though she had to leave them on my doorstep because she had never had chicken pox before. My sister brought me dinner and plenty of Scrubs to watch. Maggie came and kept me company. I got a few phone calls from people too far away to visit, and talked to Andy for hours at a time. So that, combined with probably a full 24 hours of sitting in the bath, 30 hours of watching Scrubs, and 10 hours of Spongebob, and the worst of my chicken pox was over.

Still, it was pretty horrible. I missed the last week of the term, causing frightening amounts of stress. It was lonely without anyone in the house, and limited visitors. And, on the most part, chicken pox just blow. But, I'm grateful to have them now so I don't have to be worried when my kids have chicken pox.

For now, I'm just concentrating on getting back in the game, which has been a full time job. I think I'm mostly caught up, though, which is nice. Now it's just smooth sailing for the rest of the semester until (gulp) college. Looking forward to it.

Happy Birthday, Julie!

It's my sister's birthday today! Happy Birthday, Julie! Unfortunately, she was sick all day with the stomach flu :( such a bummer, especially on her birthday! But, because of that unfortunate event, I got to watch the cutest baby in the whole entire world! My nephew, Holden. Because I'm practicing my photography, I decided to practice on him, and I was actually pretty successful! Here are some of the best ones:

Happy birthday, Julie!! Thanks for having the cutest baby in the entire world! I hope you feel better!
